UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Routs the Florida St. Seminoles in Dominant Fashion in the Quarter-Finals of the ACC Tournament

by Derrick Clyburn

The North Carolina basketball team faced off against the Florida St. Seminoles in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday at 12 Noon in Washington D.C. The Tar Heels showed why they are the ACC Regular Season Champions. They imposed their will on the Seminoles after trading baskets for the first 10 minutes of the game with intense physical defense and a fast-break attacking offense. UNC was hitting on all cylinders dominating the boards 22-9 in the first half and they did a great job of passing the ball to the open man. North Carolina’s energy and aggression allowed them to open up a 19-point lead as the Tar Heels went on a 20-4 run to end the half 46-30.

In the second half, North Carolina continued to attack the basket play stifling defense, and crash the boards to open a 32-point lead. They would go on and out-rebound the taller longer Seminoles 48-22. Hubert Davis was able to play his entire bench and rest the starters as they cruised to a 92-67 victory. Eleven players scored for the Tar Heels led by RJ Davis going for 18 points and 3 assists.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to continue to play aggressive unselfish basketball. They need to limit the one-on-one plays until they are required so the ball doesn’t stick.

Final Observations

North Carolina is now 26-6 and has two championships to pursue. They move closer to their second goal of winning the ACC Tournament by defeating Florida St. in dominating fashion. This was one of their most complete games of the season playing with consistent energy and effort in both halves.

North Carolina is playing like a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a National Title contender. They seem to be having fun on the court and playing for each other. They are a mature veteran team on a mission. Next up is Pittsburgh on Friday, March 15th at 7 pm on ESPN.
