Clemson is 0-59 in Chapel Hill. They shot over 61 percent in the second half to make the game close, but the Tigers couldn’t pull it out. This Tar Heels basketball team continues to show how well balanced they can be. In the first-half, Joel Berry had 3 points and Luke Maye had 2 points plus 6 stitches to the nose. Yet, North Carolina led by 15 at halftime. UNC showed the energy and urgency that coach Williams has been begging for. Cameron Johnson had a career-high as a Tar Heel with 21 points and 4 rebounds.

UNC Bright Spots

Cam Johnson was 6-9 from the 3 point line and had a career-high 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Joel Berry had 17 points and 4 assists.

Kenny Williams 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Theo Pinson had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks.

Luke Maye fought through his nose injury and had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to keep the pressure on their opponents when they get up by double figures. UNC settled for too many perimeter shots rather than attacking the basket. They must contest the 3 point shot better by going over the screen.

Final Observations

This was a great game to watch. North Carolina got up big early then the Tigers came back strong in the second half hitting 15 shots in a row. The Tar Heels have to learn how to put teams away and let the reserves get some playing time. They make the games a little harder than they should be with errant passes, silly fouls, and bad shots at the wrong time. Through it all, they are getting better as a team. Roles are being defined as the ACC season is now in full swing.
