This is a game that the North Carolina basketball team will want to forget. Both teams played on Saturday, but the Hokies were the team that seemed to want this game more than the Tar Heels. They were more aggressive and determined on both ends of the floor. UNC seemed to sleepwalk after getting off to a good start. Joel Berry and Luke Maye led all scoring with 23 points each. No other Tar Heel reach double figures.

 UNC Bright Spots

Joel Berry had 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Luke Maye had 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to stop settling for 3 point shots and play with more intensity and focus on the road. They need to drive the ball to the basket more aggressively. UNC only shot five free throws for the game. That’s totally unacceptable.

Final Observations

North Carolina has to play with more urgency on the road. They have played horribly against Virginia, Notre Dame, and Va. Tech. They need more balanced scoring on the road. Berry and Maye can’t carry the team all of the time. Learning to win on the road will define what type of season UNC will have heading into March Madness. They must develop mental toughness and resolve. The young and new players must step up if the Tar Heels want to achieve their team goals.
