UNC Tar Heels Football Team Decides to Go for Two

by Derrick Clyburn

The North Carolina football team gave a great and valiant effort against the #1 team in the country. The Tar Heels actually outplayed the Clemson Tigers. If North Carolina had a better play call on the two-point conversion try. I believe that they would have pulled off the upset.

The defense showed up big all game with their stud defensive lineman Jason Strowbridge back after being out battling injuries the last two games.

Mack Brown is getting this program back on the right track. The players are playing hard for him which is a great sign for the future. He had some major recruits on the sidelines watching this game. Seeing what could be.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Total Offense – 290 Yards

UNC Rushing: Javonte Williams 10-49yds 1TD, Michael Carter 16-99yds

CU Total Offense – 331 Yards

CU Passing:  Trevor Lawrence 18-30-206yds 1TD

CU Rushing:  Travis Etienne  14-67yds, 1TD

CU  Receiving:  Tee Higgins 6-129yds 1TD

UNC Bright Spots

Dyami Brown has become the team’s big-play receiver. He needs more touches, 3-63yds 1TD.

The running game was solid with Michael Carter and JaVonte Williams getting tough yards on the ground.

The defense kept the Tar Heels in the game and harassed Trevor Lawrence all day. North Carolina is a much better team with Jason Strowbridge back after missing two games with injuries.

Needs Work

Sam Howell needs to learn to throw the ball away when nothing is available instead of taking the sack. He had too many ground balls as well.

The offensive play-calling needs to be more aggressive and consistent throughout the game. Too many 3 and outs.

The offensive line needs to be more disciplined and cut down on penalties.

Final Observations

I’m proud of the way North Carolina fought against Clemson. I don’t like moral victories. I do like going for the win though. I wish a better play was drawn up than Howell running the ball on an option play against Clemson. UNC must move on to the next game. They still have a chance to fight for the Coastal Title. If they give the effort they showed today the rest of the season they will have a chance.

  1. I’m proud of our boys!!!! They exceeded everyone’s expectations in this game. That being said I still think we should have tied the game and took into overtime. We had all momentum and Clemson’s quarterback was rattled.
