Former North Carolina wing Danny Green is now a two-time NBA Champion. The Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors 114-110 on Thursday night to help give Green his second NBA title.

Green won an NBA Championship in 2014 with the San Antonio Spurs.

Thursday Night

In Thursday’s title-clinching game six, Green did not attempt a shot and finished with zero points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal in 18 minutes of action. For the NBA finals, Green averaged 7.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 steals. He averaged 27.3 minutes across the six games and shot 44.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three. His best game came in a game three win when Green scored 18 points and hit six threes.

Green adds to the long list of former North Carolina players who have won NBA Championships. UNC players have more NBA titles than any other program, and it’s not even close. With Green’s 2019 Champion, Tar Heel alums now have 34 titles total. The next closest is Kentucky with 20, Kansas with 17, and Duke with seven.

UNC Players Have the Most NBA Titles

Green, Michael Jordan, and James Worthy are the only UNC players with both an NCAA title and an NBA title.  Green and Mitch Kupchak are the only UNC players with an NBA title with two different teams.View image on Twitter

Green started 80 regular season games for the Raptors this season and averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three. He made a career-high 198 threes during the regular season in 2018-19.

In the 2019 playoffs, Green started and played in all 24 games for Toronto. He averaged 6.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. He played 28.5 minutes per game and shot 34.2 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from three.

This was Green’s first season in Toronto after he was traded to the Raptors from the San Antonio Spurs as part of the Kawhi Leonard/DeMar DeRozan trade in the offseason. Green spent parts of eight seasons with San Antonio eventually becoming a full-time starter and three-point specialist. Green played a key role in the Spurs’s 2014 NBA Championship.

Green was selected No. 45 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2009 NBA Draft. After one season with the Cavs, Green bounced around the NBDL (now the G-League) before landing with the Spurs.

Green played four seasons for North Carolina and averaged 9.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks. He started as a senior in 2008-09 and averaged 13.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks. During that season Green shot 47.1 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from three.

Green helped the Tar Heels win the 2009 National Championship.
