UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Grind Out a Win

by Derrick Isaiah Clyburn and Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team came into this game riding high as they looked to win their sixth straight game. In the second half, Miami would catch fire from the three-point line and take a seven-point lead. UNC would fight back and there would be 5 lead changes in the last five minutes of the game. Coby White was single-handedly keeping North Carolina in the game.

White hit seven three-pointers in the last seven minutes of regulation to help bring the Tar Heels back. Luke Maye hit the game-tying three to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the North Carolina would execute well on offense and force Miami to take some tough shots helping them pull away with the 88-85 win. UNC has now started 9-1 in the ACC for the first time ever under Roy Williams.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Bright Spots

Coby White had 33 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Luke Maye had 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Cameron Johnson had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

Nassir Little had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to work on their perimeter defense and make adjustments when a player gets hot.

Final Observations

This was a good win for the UNC basketball team. You have to have a few games where you have to grind it out. North Carolina showed the mental toughness to fight through Miami hitting some big-time shots and made the plays to win at the end.

This will bode well for the Tar Heels as they get ready for postseason play. Coby White is a special player. He took over the game when UNC needed it most. I like that this team doesn’t have to depend on one or two players to be successful. The North Carolina offense puts so much pressure on their opponents.

  1. I feel like this is a game the Heels would’ve lost a month ago. We didn’t play our best, but to be that team, we’re gonna have to win games like these.
