UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Win First Home Game

by Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team learned to win ugly tonight. You have to have those kinds of wins under your belt to reference back to when March Madness starts. UNC shot a paltry 39% from the field and still won the game. The spark for this game was Seventh Woods’ block against the Irish’s 6’10 center on a fast break and Nassir Little scoring 11 second-half points. Maybe, just maybe Nassir is coming out of his funk.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Bright Spots

Coby White had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Cameron Johnson had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Nassir Little had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Luke Maye had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to continue working on moving without the ball and attacking the basket with aggression. They have settled for too many perimeter shots this season. Someone needs to step up and be a leader, especially when times get tough.

Final Observations

North Carolina really needed this win after a lackluster performance against Louisville. This bounce back win can help them refocus on fine tuning their approach as they define who they are as a team.

UNC needs to continue being aggressive getting to the rim to keep the pressure on their opponents. Brandon Robinson was a bright spot off the bench going 3-4 from the 3-point line. They miss Sterling Manley’s size and length who is out with knee injury missing his 5th game.
