UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Dismantles Wake Forest

by Derrick Isaiah Clyburn

After a tough loss against Virgina last Monday night, the Tar Heels basketball team came out with a lot of energy on both ends of the floor against Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon. In the first half, UNC got out to quick 18-0 lead, firing on all cylinders and playing great defense. The Heels hit 9 threes in the first half and held Wake Forest to just 21 percent shooting for the entire first half.

In the second half, North Carolina overwhelmed Wake Forest on both offense and defense, extending their lead to as many as 38 points. The Tar Heels finished the game with 16 threes and shooting 62 percent from the field for the entire game. Cameron Johnson led the team in scoring with 27 points and the Heels got good contributions off the bench from Seventh Woods and Brandon Robinson.

UNC Game Stats

Cameron Johnson had 27 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Luke Maye had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Coby White had 10 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to cut down on their turnovers.

Final Observations

The Tar Heels got their 20th win of the season and are now 10-2 in ACC play. This game showed that when the Heels are hitting their shots and are getting after it on the defensive end they are a tough team to beat.

Even though it was Wake Forest, this was a good win going into a big rivalry game on Wednesday against Duke. With six games left in the regular season before tournament play, UNC should be getting back Rechon Black and Sterling Manley very soon and we can finally see how good this Carolina team can be at full strength.
