UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Tune-Up for the Season Against Winston-Salem St.

by Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team is in the process of learning each other’s game and finding their identity. It will take a few games to create chemistry but they will get there. Cole Anthony will run the show with Rechon “Leaky” Black as his backup.

North Carolina got their first game action in front of the Dean Smith Center crowd and showed some early game jitters. UNC had 23 turnovers for the game but showed signs of strength with the inside presence of Garrison Brooks producing 18 points and 11 rebounds and Armando Bacot had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UNC Bright Spots

Garrison Brooks had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Christian Keeling had 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Cole Anthony had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and7 assists.

Leaky Black had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to take care of the ball better. North Carolina turned it over 23 times for the game. The players need to move better without the ball as well.

UNC needs to continue to work on their chemistry and defensive intensity.

Final Observations

The Tar Heels will have their growing pains as they learn to play as a team. They have plenty of scoring options. UNC will get better and better as they learn Roy’s offensive and defensive schemes.

Leaky Black and Christian Keeling seemed to play under control and will take some pressure off Cole Anthony when it comes to perimeter scoring.

The season opener will start this Wednesday night against Notre Dame at 7 pm.
