The Tar Heels football team turned the ball over six times in a game that was ugly at best for the offense. North Carolina needs to find a quarterback that will take care of the ball and run the offense efficiently. I don’t know if that player is on this team. Your team usually goes as the quarterback’s success goes. There were two pick-sixes and one fumble for touchdowns. That’s totally unacceptable. You won’t win games playing like that.

Game Stats

UNC Total Offense – 329 Yards

Rushing 215, Passing 114

UNC Rushing: Michael Carter 7-75yds, Chazz Surratt 9-69yds 1 TD

UNC Receiving: Anthony Ratliff-Williams 2-33 yds

Miami Total Offense – 354 Yards

Miami Passing: N’Kosi Perry 8-12-125yds 1 TD

Miami Rushing: DeeJay Dallas 11-114yds 1 TD

Miami Receiving:  Darrell Langham 3-33yds 1 TD

Bright Spots

The defense played well enough to be in the game.

Needs Work

The offense turned the ball over six times. Three were interceptions for touchdowns and three were fumbles for touchdowns or field goals. You can’t win games giving points to the defense. The Tar Heels are struggling at the quarterback position. When the starter and the backup are turnovers prone. The offense and the team are going to struggle to win many games.

Final Observations

Fedora, the offensive and the defensive coordinators need to put UNC in a better position to win. In the 1st quarter, the Tar Heels drove the ball all the way down to the six-yard line running the ball. Then with 1st and goal to go, they chose to throw the ball which was an incompletion. The next play they tried to do a quarterback sneak with Nathan Elliott for no gain. The third down play was short incomplete in the end zone to a covered receiver. UNC had to settle for a field goal.

The defense has started out slow the last three games before making adjustments at halftime. Then they play much better fitting the gaps on the running plays.

It’s demoralizing to a team to have multiple turnovers become points for the other team. It has happened too many times this year. That has to be corrected immediately for this team to have a chance to right this sinking ship.
