UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Let a Win Slip Away

by Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team let one get away. North Carolina was down by one point with 12.4 seconds remaining Coby White came down and shot an off-balanced contested 3-point shot and UNC loses by one. Roy Williams should have called a timeout to set up a winning play to end the game.

This was a nip and tuck back and forth game. UNC couldn’t hit there outside shots for most of the second half. It was a physical game and the officials missed a few calls. But to be Champions you have to play through it and finish the game strong. Cameron Johnson led the Tar Heels with 23 points and 3 rebounds.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Bright Spots

Cameron Johnson had 23 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Luke Maye had 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Coby White had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to finish games better. They must stay aggressive attacking the basket.

Final Observations

This game went down to the wire. North Carolina had its chances but didn’t capitalize on their opportunities. They settle for too many perimeter shots shooting 40% from the field and 14.3% from the 3-point line. UNC can’t live and die by the three. That’ not a good recipe. Congrats to Duke for eeking out a win. The Tar Heels must make adjustments and move on. It’s a new season now 0-0. Win or go home!
