UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Wakes Up in the Second Half and Cruise to Victory

by Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team had a wake-up call in the first half in how you should take each game seriously. Iona made 10 3-pointers in the first half to give the Gaels a 5 point half time margin.

North Carolina came out on fire in the second half with a 23-4 run and never looked back. They tighten up the defense and made Iona have to shoot the ball with a hand in their face. Cam Johnson led all Tar Heels with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Nassir Little came off the bench giving the team a great boost with 19 points and 4 rebounds and several thunderous dunks.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to play with a sense of urgency from the tip-off. You can’t take any teams for granted. They have to put the pressure on teams and don’t let up.

Final Observations

You win and move. One down and Five to go. UNC finally relaxed and played North Carolina basketball. They played unselfishly passing the ball to the open man and attacking the rim. They showed their defensive prowess by shutting down the Iona 3 point brigade. The Gaels were 5-20 from the 3-point line in the second half. Three of those trifectas came with the reserves in the game in the final moments. This was a good wake up call for North Carolina to learn from.
