UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Get Payback on Lousiville

by Derrick Isaiah Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team has won four games in a row and was looking to get revenge. Extending their winning streak to five games against a Louisville team that blew them out the last time they played against each other. In the first half, UNC came out with a lot of defensive intensity as they made Louisville uncomfortable on the offensive end and held them to shooting just 35 percent for the entire first half.

In the last few minutes of the first half, North Carolina would go on a 26-8 run as they started to click on the offensive end and would extend their lead to as many as 19. In the second half, UNC continued to play well and kept the lead in double figures for the rest of the game. The Tar Heels arguably played the best defense against dribble penetration they had played in a long time and dominated the boards 49-32 leading the Heels to a 10-point victory. Luke Maye led all scoring with 20 points and 11rebounds.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Bright Spots

Luke Maye had 20 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Cameron Johnson had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 steal.

Garrison Brooks had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal.

Kenny Williams had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals.

Needs Work

UNC needs to work on taking better shots in the half-court offense.

Final Observations

North Carolina seems to be getting better and better each game as they have won five games in a row and are now 7-1, 5-0 on the road, in conference play. UNC has played well and has found a way lately to win even when they are not shooting the ball well in the last few games.

They need to continue to come out with the same energy and sense of urgency going forward as some of their biggest defeats have come after their biggest wins of the season. Everyone seems to now understand what their roles are on the team and are now thriving in them, which means once Rechon Black and Sterling Manley come back from injury they should be getting ready to take that next step forward as a team.

  1. Great win, and an awesome revenge game. When we rebound the basketball we’re extremely tough to beat. The seniors need to cut down the silly turnovers, but other than that we’re coming along very nicely
