UNC Tar Heels Basketball Team Shows What They Can Do WhenThey Make Shots

by Derrick Clyburn

The Tar Heels basketball team turned up the defensive intensity after the first 8 minutes of the game and blew the game open to cruise to a 21 point win. North Carolina is still a work in progress, but when they hit shots they can beat anyone in the country.

We saw a glimpse of the offensive potency with five players getting into double figures and putting up 103 points on the 9th ranked Va. Tech Hokies. UNC was led by the Freshmen Duo Coby White and Nassir Little. They combined for 50 points and 13 rebounds.

UNC Game Stats

UNC Bright Spots

Coby White had 27 points 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Nassir Little had a season-high 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Luke Maye had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Kenny Williams had 10 points, 1 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Garrison Brooks had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Needs Work

The Tar Heels need to be more consistent with their energy and urgency on offense and defense from the tip off. They tend to have lapses throughout the game. UNC also needs to continue working on cutting down on their turnovers and be more agresssive attacking the rim.

Final Observations

Nassir Little has put together three straight strong performance. This was his best game of the season. Hopefully, this is his break party. Coby White is playing like a stud. He can get buckets. White just needs to cut down on silly turnovers.

UNC is still defining who they are as a team and it’s starting to look like a more complete team.

  1. We finally had one of those games where our shots were falling. And that was with our best player, Cam Johnson, not having his A game. Nas with 23 points in just 20 minutes.
